Finally, Twitter listened to the users and made changes to its timeline for showing tweets as users want them. Today, the social media platform announced to bring back the chronological timeline via series of tweets. According to the announcement the user will be able to opt out the existing algorithm based timeline showing the best tweets.
Twitter adopted the algorithm based timeline three years ago in 2016 that shows the best tweets. The company has updated the app and now if you turn off the ‘show the best tweets’ from Timeline settings, you will see the tweets in reverse chronological order. Earlier toggling off this option stopped the featured or best tweets appearing from your timeline instead it used to show the tweets that you have missed and there were some tweets from the users whom you didn’t follow.

Many users complained about the algorithm based timeline to Twitter frequently and asked the company to change it. In 2016, when the company’s stock price and popularity were at stake, it introduces the new timeline in order to boost up the platform’s engagement. Showing the people popular tweets on their timeline using the algorithm worked well for the company, and it gets back on track. The algorithm timeline feature was inspired by Facebook, who was consistently experimenting with its timeline for the users. Now, when users want a change and liberty to manage their timeline, Twitter update the app with the reverse chronological timeline. Besides, the company also announced that it will be further updating the app to provide “an easily accessible way” to the users for switching between chronological and algorithm timeline.

“We’re working on making it easier for people to control their Twitter timeline, including providing an easy switch to see the most recent tweets,” wrote Kayvon Beykpour, Twitter Product Lead in his tweet.
By bringing back the chronological timeline, Twitter will be giving the users freedom who feel bound to the algorithm based timeline throwing only the best tweets on their screen.
